How To Get A Free Ringtone

by Chris Channing

Mobile phone ringtones have become a large industry for cell phone providers. Ringtones alone account for a vast majority of the optional profits companies receive, simply because they are so popular with consumers. But getting one’s hand on free ringtones will keep their bank accounts running high, and their mobile phones just as jamming.

While most cell phone carriers will allow for third party content to be downloaded at no extra charge, others have a “closed end” system that only allows content to be obtained through their own network of services. Even under such a tyranny, there are ways to get around the ban on content created by others. After all- it’s your mobile phone, why let the cell phone carrier dictate what you use on it?

Connectivity is what cell phones are all about- and this fact also helps give mobile phone users a way to get free ringtones even under tight watch from the mobile phone provider. Technologies such as Bluetooth allow mobile phones to connect wirelessly and share content. It just so happens that ringtones can be traded this way, meaning friends can share ringtones and content for no charge at all.

Before one can transfer any ringtone to a friend or family member, they must first obtain the ringtone. Internet websites can help one’s situation in this case, as they are able to offer free ringtones under special laws. Some websites situated in certain countries are also devoid of copyright laws- although it is still possible that the one downloading the ringtone may get in trouble for copyright infringement if caught.

Some computer programs will allow free cell phone ringtones to be obtained as well. In this instance the consumer will need to have the music they want as a ringtone already in their library. By sectioning off a certain part of the song and converting it to the required format, one can obtain a ringtone from their own library for absolutely no cost. With a little searching, such programs can be found for free as well.

Be warned, however, that many “free ringtones” are actually part of a payment plan. Commercials that advertise free ringtones will have footnotes that claim that a plan will need to be purchased for the free ringtone gift. This is a dastardly way of tricking consumers into money, but in the defense of such means of selling ringtones, the consumer should have paid their attention to the “fine print.”

Closing Comments

There are so many venues for free ringtones that it is ridiculous to pay for such trivial things. By following the mentioned steps, Internet users and normal consumers can get their hands on free ringtones of every size, quality, and length- just be sure it’s legal and no hidden fees apply to the transaction.
