Readers Will Enjoy The Convenience Of The Kindle

by Lisa Condrey

Since Amazon released their popular Kindle, people have found that reading is now much easier. Previously, it was necessary to visit a bookstore or library if you wanted to pick up a new book. With the introduction of the Kindle, readers can simply download their books through Amazon?s website onto the device.

The originally Kindle debuted in November of 2007. It included a wireless modem that would allow the user to download new books straight to the device without having to use a computer. When the device was initially introduced, users could choose from a collection of nearly 90,000 titles to download which were compatible with the device.

The memory that was included with the device allowed the user to store an impressive 200 books so long as they did not include illustrations. This of course would diminish storage capacity. A Secure Digital expansion slot was also included on the Kindle as well.

When the Kindle made its debut, it quickly sold out. Even with the large price tag of $399, people still wanted one of these devices for themselves. Eventually the price was reduced to $359. Although it is still quite expensive, many people are more than happy to pay the price because the Kindle makes reading a book so convenient.

Due to its success, the Kindle 2 was eventually released in early 2009. This upgrade carries the same price tag as the original which most people will certainly enjoy. There are several improvements that have been made to the Kindle 2. Not only will new users want to grab the new device, but owners of the original Kindle may want to upgrade as well.

The overall size of the Kindle 2 has been trimmed down quite a bit. While the original was closer to an inch in thickness, the Kindle 2 is just .36 inches thick. Battery life has also been greatly improved upon.

Storage capacity has been increased to nearly 2 gigabytes on the Kindle 2 which allows the user to store around 1,500 books. One unfortunate note here is that the Secure Digital expansion slot has been eliminated.

If you ever find yourself tired of reading, the Kindle 2 has a great feature that you will want to take advantage of. This device can actually convert the text of your book into speech. Stephen King fans will want to invest in a Kindle 2. The popular horror author has written a short book called ?UR? which fans will only be able to read, or listen to, with a Kindle 2!
