How To Buy A Bridal Gown Stress-Free
It can be difficult to find a flattering bridal gown, even if you’re tall and thin. If you’re less stylishly shaped, like a pear shape, hourglass, or apple, or if you’re petite, finding the right dress can be a real trial.
However, there’s still hope if you’re having a lot of trouble finding things that fit. Specialty boutiques and non bridal stores can be a great place to shop, but go in with a knowledge of what styles look good on you and which ones don’t. Here are the major shape categories most of us fall into, and the styles that flatter each one.
Classic hourglass shape – Hourglass shaped women have similar bust and hip measurements with a defined waist. Most of them are more than a size fourteen, which can make it a nightmare to shop for gowns. Fortunately, many styles look good on this shape, including strapless gowns, if they have enough support.
Pear – Pear shaped women have a smaller bust and larger hips. This is also called the spoon shape. Add interest to your bridal gown’s bodice with bead work, embroidery, and other detailing. This will help you balance your smaller top half against your bottom half.
Apple shapes – If you tend to have similarly sized hips and bust, but have a poorly defined waist, your shape is called an apple. Empire waists, when used with long full skirts, can help you de-emphasize your waist and hips. Don’t choose a short bridal gown in this style, however – you could look pregnant!
Petite – If you’re under 165 cm (5’4″) tall, you’re considered petite. That means you have your own set of challenges – trying to find a gown that’s not too straight and slim and still doesn’t overwhelm you with ruffles and detailing can be tough. If you do prefer a simple gown, try a more elaborate headdress to set it off.
Plus size – If you’re larger than a size fourteen or sixteen, you probably have a lot of trouble finding bridal gowns. Most dresses in these sizes are simply larger versions of the smaller styles – a recipe for fitting disaster. Stick to specialty boutiques that stock dresses made for your size to look your best.
Flattering dresses are important when you choose a gown. However, knowing what styles look good isn’t all there is to it. Keep track of the way different brands fit, so you’ll know which ones to choose and which not to wear.
Of course, if you’re having lots of problems, you can always have a wedding dress customized or made specially to fit you. This is a lot less costly than you might think, and you’ll be sure to look great. However, give your seamstress or tailor plenty of time – up to a year – so you’ll get the perfect bridal gown for your big day.
Platinum Wedding Diamond Engagement Ring
The best way to ensure some form of continuity when buying wedding rings is to have the engagement ring available to compare it. Often, well decorated platinum wedding rings may look good on but detract attention from the engagement ring so you may need to try a number of rings to see which suits it best. When two people say their vows to stay with each other, it is clearly symbolized in the circular form of the wedding ring they then place on one another’s finger. Although traditions vary, many still see the giving of rings as the last in a long line of gifts that the bride and groom present to one another.
This aging custom has been given a facelift over recent years by the giving of an ‘eternity’ ring which is designed to show the partner their lasting commitment to the marriage. It is now becoming more popular to have them engraved, so if you and your partner are buying matching examples, why not have them both engraved with a message personal to you both just to give them that unique feel. Not everyone likes plain bands so if your platinum wedding rings are a little bland for your liking, why not have a beaded edge engraved on either one or both, just as long as it suits your personality. To be honest it is difficult to go wrong if you both decide on the rings you like because ultimately it is your choice.
Unlike some jewelry you may buy during your life, these are very special and should be treated with respect as they probably won’t leave your fingers very often. The quality should reflect how important you feel you marriage is going to be. It is possible to buy wedding rings inexpensively but this should not be done as it undermines the significance they should hold and you can be sure they will not stand the test of time. When you spend a great deal of money on your platinum wedding rings, it is important you make sure that they both fit well and not accept anything less, otherwise neither of them will look good when they’re on you and your partners fingers.
When you choose your rings, have you and your partners fingers measured professionally and don’t leave it to guesswork. This can work both ways with the possibility of wedding rings that will not slide over one or both fingers! You may have to wait a while for these adjustments to be made so allow for delays and the fact you want a good job done in the first place. You can guarantee that if you do not choose you platinum wedding rings as soon as you have organized the wedding there will be problems so do this right away; then the adjustments can be carried out in good time.
Be careful when choosing your platinum wedding rings you do not look for the most fashionable as these can date very quickly. This type of life changing statement means you should buy rings that reflect this and that you will feel proud to wear.

Crystal Gifts Offer a Surprising Variety
Crystal is one of the most beautiful materials ever made by man. Those who appreciate the finer things of life owe a debt of gratitude to the first person who conceived the notion that molten sand could ever create something so useful. Glassmaking is actually art. The Mesopotamians were producing glass, by the third millennium BC and the Egyptians in the second millennium. It was, however, quite dear, considered to be on par with gold.
Glass making evolved through the centuries. Around the first century AD it was decided that blowing glass was a an improved method of shaping pieces. It was not until the late 1600s that lead crystal was invented. George Ravenscroft, who opened a glass factory in London in 1673, fiddled around adding minerals to glass to make it more perfect and brilliant. It was he who first added lead oxide to glass during the melting process, producing what was called “flint glass”. Using lead made the glass stronger and more refractive. It also made it softer. Whether because of the discovery that the new, softer material was easier to cut or simply because of changing tastes, cut crystal became popular about this time.
There are some real artists working in crystal today, and the types of articles to be had in that material is amazing. Crystal gifts can be elegant, whimsical, traditional, or very modern. No matter the occasion, there is something to please. Consider the uniqueness of a cut glass numeral “1″ paperweight to let someone important know where he or she stands in your life. Or for something unusual with a link to the past, a hand cooler makes a different sort of gift. Originating in the 1700 and 1800s, these sweet little objects were held in the palm of the hand as a means of cooling off. Steuben releases a new, collectible hand cooler once a year.
For a wedding gift, there are many beautiful choices, such as a crystal beehive for dispensing honey, a Waterford “biscuit barrel,” or a sleek set of five Block-glas candleholders. For the bride, a sweet crystal bridal memento box is sure to be held dear for a lifetime.
There is no occasion for which a gift of crystal would not be fitting. The density and warmth of a piece of crystal in the palm of a human hand is something singular. Luxurious crystal pieces are wonderful to receive on any occasion.
Is The Casual Wedding Dress An Option For Your Big Day?
Why has the casual wedding dress seen an increase in popularity? The reason is because it allows the bride a degree of uniqueness while maintaining an elegant and classy look.
An additional bonus that not many brides will have thought about is the fact that a casual wedding dress can be worn more than once so it may be something that you can wear after you get married. Generally speaking casual wedding dresses are more comfortable than the traditional type dress.
How Do You Find A Super Wedding Dress?
Locating a casual dress is quite simple really, this is because there is a market for this type of dress and the major designers cater for this market. This means that you can buy casual dresses off the rack as well as from design houses. Casual dresses tend to be cheaper than traditional dresses which will help if you have budgetary constraints.
It is not uncommon to find a casual dress that can work out at more than 50 percent less than a traditional one. It is also possible to pick a dress that was not even intended for the wedding market.
There are many casual wear outfitters around the world that you can shop at, and if anything you will have even more variety and selection by choosing to go this route.
Try Not To Forget.
Should you decide that your wedding is going to be based on a casual look then you need to communicate this fact to the people that you are inviting. The last thing that you want is a whole number of people turning up in very fancy attire making you look out of place.
In addition to this you also should ensure that the wedding setup is casual themed. Casual dress based weddings tend to take a lot of stress and pressure off the congregation and bridal party.
It really allows everyone to have a lot more fun and make the best of the occasion, and this is a big reason why so many couples are deciding to take the casual route in this day and age.
Wedding Snaffoos and How to Avoid Them
Planning a wedding takes a lot of time and effort, and sometimes there is so much going on that people forget about certain things. If something goes wrong on your wedding day or during the process of planning your wedding, it is certain that things will usually become chaotic. Things for the wedding could be forgotten or things may totally go not as planned. In this case, it is important to have a backup plan.
It is important to take precautions during the planning of your wedding so you can avoid missing steps or forgetting steps altogether. Here are five easy ways to avoid very common wedding mistakes.
1. Reduce the amount of guest you invite. A lot of the planning that you do when getting ready for your wedding is based on the number of guest that you invite. The more guest you have the higher the cost ends up being and it you aren’t careful then you may find that there isn’t enough space for everyone at the church or reception hall.
Generally if you invite 100 people you will get 80 to 85 who will come, in addition to that, you need to consider that some of them will even bring a date or friend with them. So you should plan as if everyone on your guest list will arrive.
2. Know the basic rules and regulations of getting married. The laws dealing with marriage licenses vary in each state and sometimes in each county. It is important to have an understanding of the rules and laws that pertain to you. Take time to check up on all of these legalities way before your wedding.
If you planned your wedding to take place in a church, be aware of what dress and music are suitable. Some churches have strict requirements about the wedding ceremony. To get this information, contact your officiant.
3. Be sure that all vendors dealing with your wedding know the specific details. These people will need to know the time, date, and location, but besides these details, vendors will also need to know other things. Visit each vendor a week or so before your wedding to make sure that all of the little details are correct. It is a good idea to make a list of the vendors you plan to use with their contact information to have on during your wedding incase something goes wrong.
4. Begin beauty preparations a couple of weeks ahead of time. If you are planning on getting your hair cut, permed, or dyed make sure that you do so a couple of weeks before. The same goes for tanning salon visits. The last thing you want is to get a bad dye job and not have time to fix it before the wedding. The same goes for sunning beds, no one wants a sunburn on their wedding day.
5. Be prepared. Of course we can’t see what the future will bring, so having alternate plans is a must. For example if you are planning your wedding for outside then make sure that you have an alternate location indoors just in case the weather turns to rain. You should also see that someone is in charge of having an emergency sewing kit, first aid supplies or any other items that may possibly be needed…just in case.
Choosing the Best Flower Girl Gown – Part 2
We discussed key points to select the perfect flower girl dresses in our previous article – Part I. Let’s talk more about it here.
Your flower girl dresses should reflect the location of the ceremony and reception, of course. An outdoor venue will subject the dress and your sweetest little party member to the cold and the heat and she will likely act accordingly. Weather can change quickly, so keep this in mind and make provisions in advance with something like a shawl, sweater or wrap that can be added or removed as needed.
Flower girls are likely not experienced in posture and walking techniques to reduce a tripping disaster. Don’t go with a floor length gown just because everyone else’s gown is that long. Keeping the hemline above her shoes can be a disaster avoider if she is especially young (or a tomboy at any age).
Shopping for a flower girl dress with the entire wedding party milling around with a multitude of opinions and input can cause stress off the richter scale! We strongly encourage you to shop by yourself with a maximum of ONE other person whose opinion you really value. Dragging a child along cause other problems, too.
A flower girl gown can be fun to choose from and a great opportunity to make a favorite little girl in your life feel special. Throwing practicality to the wind and ignoring comfort will only set the stage for a mid-ceremony meltdown. Be thoughtful of the venue, the style and the appropriateness for the occasion when selecting from the many flower girl dresses available.
Time to declutter your make-up bag?
Take a good look at your make-up and the bag you keep it in. If they are not looking their perfect – that is to say if products are missing lids, brushes are matted and puffs & sponges are in need of a clean, if you have make-up in there that you haven’t used in ages, then it’s time to reassess and de-clutter your make-up bag. Even the appropriate, most expensive make-up won’t look wonderful if it’s past it’s sell-by date. Or applied with dirty brushes, sponges and puffs. Worst yet these products could cause loads of problems that perhaps you weren’t even aware of.
Initially your new /clean make-up will only become contaminated if put into a dirty make-up bag. So give what ever make-up you love and want to keep a wipe before putting it back in. If you’ve got makeup brushes then keep them in optimum working condition by cleaning them regularly. Make-up artists invest in good brushes which with proper maintenance last for years, mine are over 10 years old and still look good and work wonderfully. But if your brushes look more like a cat’s chew toy then it’s time to throw it away. Dirty, grubby brushes, sponges & puffs could be the reason your foundation, eye shadows, blushers and powders may not look as good as they could. It will cause your make-up to go on blotchy, uneven and discoloured. They could also be the main cause of some skin irritations, as a result of bacteria breeding on them. Skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, rashes and conjunctivitis can develop, become worst or constantly reoccur as a result of using dirty tools and products past there sell by date. The other problem that arises is you can sensitise your skin to any future products you buy if your actual make-up bag is looking grubby then either clean it or invest in a new one.
I clean my ‘working’ brushes each time I use them but my own ‘personal’ brushes once every 3 to 4 weeks. Which is what I would suggest you do as well. Sponges and foundation brush really should be washed after each use. It’s easy to clean your brushes, just wet the bristles thoroughly with warm water. Then wash them with what ever shampoo you use (as long as it’s not a dandruff one). That way too you’ll know that you clean your brushes with won’t irritate your skin. Once they’re debris free rinse them in lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Now gently squeeze out the excess water ( I find using paper towel works well). Reshape and lay flat on a paper towel to dry. I usually wash my brushes in the evening so that they’re ready the next day. Alternatively you can invest in brush cleaner. These are now widely available.
Now for the actual makeup. You may have noticed an open jar label on your make-up, this means that once opened that product will be at its optimum appropriate for how ever many months it says. Once opened: – Mascara should be replaced after three or 4 months or sooner if it’s lost it’s ‘pop’ when opened. Remember not to pump your mascara, this pushes air into the tube making it dry out quicker. Old mascara can harbour bacteria that causes eye infections. Never share your mascara.
- Foundation (oil-based) around 18 months, (water-based) up to 12 months. – Concealer 18 months – Blusher (powder) 2 years, (cream) 18 months. – Lipsticks & Glosses should last a couple of years, but keep them out of the heat this changes their consistency, colour & texture. – Eyeshadow (powder) 24 months, (cream) 18 months, as long as you shut the lid tight. – Lip & Eye Pencils about 2 years as long as you keep them out of the sun and sharpen them regularly. – Liquid Eyeliner 12 to 18 months. – Face Powder 36 months. As long as the brush or puff you use to apply it is kept clean. – Nail Polish about 12 months, longer if you keep it in the fridge. REMEMBER when applying make-up with your fingers make sure your hands are clean.
Top Tips: If it’s lost it’s top/lid throw it out!! If it smells odd throw it out!! If you’ve got a cold sore don’t use your lip colour straight from the tube or wand, use a clean cosmetic bud each time. If you’ve got an eye infection do not use any eye make-up.
